Shiny and dull, glazed and unglazed, dark and light all contrast in this striking mug.
This mug is wheel thrown from a beautiful, midrange porcelain. A pulled handle was added at leather hard stage. Once the mug dried, the bottom third was mason stained black and the mug was bisque fired in the kiln. A purple and blue were layered inside and two thirds of the way down the front. The stained, black porcelain was left raw at the base. The mug returned to the kiln a second time for a cone 6 (about 2232F) firing during which the silica in the clay and glaze vitrified and turned to a permanent, durable gloss.
This mug can be made to order in almost any colors. If you would like to customize, please leave a note at checkout and allow 2 to 3 weeks for shipping.
